Kiwis need to win 2 out of 3 formats vs India to get pass marks: McMillan

1562759855-4325

New Zealand cricket team are up against a “powerhouse” in the visiting India cricket team, says former all-rounder Craig McMillan who feels the Black Caps will have to win in two out of three formats to be eligible for at least the “pass marks”.

New Zealand will host India for five Twenty20s, three ODIs and two Tests beginning here on January 24 and the hosts will be desperate to bounce back from the recent 0-3 Test drubbing at the hands of Australia.

“It’s big. This whole Indian tour is big after what happened in Australia,” McMillan was quoted as saying by ‘Radio Sport Breakfast’.

“This Indian side are a powerhouse. Doesn’t matter if it’s Tests, ODIs, T20s, they are the real deal so it’s going to be a really intriguing tour. For New Zealand to get a pass mark for this tour they need to win two of the three series.”

The series against India will start with the T20 rubber on Friday and McMillan feels with the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be held later this year, it is imperative for New Zealand to win this assignment. Read More

1573406956-4285

India cricket team right-arm pacer Deepak Chahar has been ruled out of the third and final One Day International (ODI) against the Windies cricket team due to a lower back injury. Navdeep Saini has been named as his replacement and will join the squad for the decider to be played on Sunday.

In a media release, BCCI stated that Deepak felt mild pain in his lower back following the second ODI played in Vizag on Wednesday which India won comprehensively. “The BCCI medical team examined him and has suggested that the fast bowler needs some rest in order to fully recover. He has thus been ruled out of the final ODI,” the statement read.

Deepak went wicket-less in Visakhapatnam, giving away 44 runs in his seven overs. He had also dropped a catch of Nicholas Pooran, who along with Shimron Hetmyer at one stage, threatened to take the game away from India.

However, the visitors were bundled out for 280 inside 44 overs, thus falling short of India’s total of 387 by 107 runs. Read More

IPL 2019 KXIP vs KKR Preview: Punjab, Kolkata clash to stay in playoff race

In match 52 of VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 (IPL 2019), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will host Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on Friday. KKR are at the sixth spot in IPL 2019 points table with 10 points in 12 matches while KXIP are at the seventh spot with 10 points in as many matches due to low net run rate (NRR). The match is crucial for both the teams as a loss at this stage will diminish playoff chances. Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals have already qualified for the IPL 2019 playoffs while two spots are up for grab and an intense competition is underway between five teams. R Ashwin’s Punjab would look to break the losing-streak but KKR, who defeated Mumbai Indians after putting up a mammoth 233-run target, would be high on confidence. Dinesh Karthik-led KKR lost 6 matches in a row after finally breaking the spell against Mumbai at the Wankhede in their previous match.

Although KKR return to winning ways against Mumbai Indians in their last game, the Dinesh Karthik-led side need to register victories in their final two games to have an outside chance of qualifying for the Play-offs.

The KKR top-order — Shubman Gill (75), Chris Lynn (54) and Andre Russell (80 not out) fired in unison in their last match against Mumbai Indians to lift the side to a mammoth 232 for two, a total which the bowling unit defended to register a much-needed 34-run win.

India rise to 2nd spot in ICC ODI rankings after series win in Aus, NZ

The Indian cricket team on Monday rose a rung to second in the ICC ODI rankings in which captain Virat Kohli and pacer Jasprit Bumrah continued to top the respective charts for batsmen and bowlers.

India have accumulated 122 points on the back of series wins over Australia and New Zealand and are placed behind England (126) in the fresh list, the ICC said in a statement.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni also moved up owing to a strong showing against Australia last month, which fetched him the player of the series award. Dhoni has moved up three places to 17th position in the batting list for a run, which included three consecutive half-centuries against Australia.

New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult surged to third in the rankings for bowlers after finishing with 12 wickets in the series against India, which culminated in Wellington on Sunday with a 4-1 victory for the visiting side.

The 29-year-old left-armer, who swung the ball prodigiously to claim five for 21 and helped New Zealand to a win in the fourth match, has moved up seven places, the International Cricket Council said in a statement.

Boult topped the rankings in January 2016, and is again on his way up, with only Bumrah and Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan ahead of him. Read More

Asia Cup 2018, Ind vs Ban LIVE score: Jadeja gets Shakib; Bangladesh 59/3

1537528529-2442

In the first match of the Super Four stage of Asia Cup 2018, Rohit Sharma’s India will take on Masrafe Mortaza-led Bangladesh at Dubai International Stadium in United Arab Emirates. For Bangladesh, it will be back-to-back contest after they played their last league game on Thursday in which they were thrashed by Afghanistan by 137 runs. On the other hand, India are coming into the game with a day’s break after they beat arch-rivals Pakistan quite easily in their last league fixture. India and Bangladesh have played 33 ODI matches, of which India has won 27 matches and Bangladesh five. These statistics might look skewed in India’s favour and seem to undermine the recent cricket rivalry between the two neighbours. It all started with a no-ball in the ICC World Cup 2015 quarter-finals and spilled over to India’s tour of Bangladesh when debutant Mustafizur Rahman ripped through India’s batting line-up. The rivalry between the two cricket fanatic nations peaked in the 2016 World T20, where India’s dramatic one-run win against Bangladesh was followed up by Mushfiqur Rahim celebrating on social media as West Indies beat India in the semi-final.

India vs Bangladesh rivalry in recent past

While India’s rivalry with Pakistan is historic, their rivalry with Bangladesh, especially since the controversial 2015 World Cup quarterfinals at Melbourne, has been bitter.

However, one can’t deny that Bangladesh are now a quality 50-over side, a format they have mastered following a formidable run at home, besides reaching the Asia Cup final in 2012. Read Complete Article

India vs England: Virat Kohli & co look to wrap up series with 2nd T20I win

India stand on the cusp of a 6th successive T20I series’ win – a run stretching back to their 2-1 win over New Zealand at home in Nov 2017. Catch live updates of India vs England 2nd T20I match here

1530650104-2975

Sports News: Fresh from a clinical eight-wicket victory over England, India will aim to clinch the Twenty-20 International (T20I) series when they lock horns with the hosts in the second T20I of the three-match series at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff today. The Indian cricket team led by Virat Kohli completely outclassed England in the first game, as Kuldeep Yadav’s fifer followed by Lokesh Rahul’s unbeaten ton guided Indian to a comfortable victory. Indian skipper Virat Kohli will be expecting another dominant show from his side to set the tone for the long England tour.

The Indian team management is likely to stick to the same playing eleven, and will not try to disturb their winning combination. In the batting department. Opener Shikhar Dhawan, who failed in the first match, would like to rectify his mistakes in the second T20I against England, while in bowling department, pacers would like to display some disciplined bowling after leaking runs in the opening 10 overs of the first T20I.

On the other hand, England will be desperate to bounce back in the threematch series and would once again rely on opener Jos Buttler, who continued his purple patch of form with another half-century in the opening match. In order to put up a fight against the visitors, apart from Buttler, Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Alex Hales, and Eoin Morgan will have to quickly learn to read India’s wrist spinners. While England spinner Adil Rashid did a fair job in the first outing, Moeen Ali was expensive and will have to be economical against the spin-friendly Indian batsmen. The English camp will also miss the services of pacer Tom Curran, who has been ruled out of the remaining T20Is and the ODI series owing to a left side strain.

India vs England T20I: Virat Kohli & co gear up for tough English summer

1505633063-3569

India will start the English Summer with T20I series, followed by 50-over cricket and Test series in August. Catch live updates here of the first T20Is between India and England

Sports News: After a crushing 2-0 victory over minnows Ireland, India led by Virat Kohli will be up against a formidable England in the first of the three-match Twenty20 International series (T20Is) at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Indian cricket team’s supremacy in shorter formats is redoubtable but India will have their task cut out against a vastly improved England in the opening T20 International in what will be a defining summer for Virat Kohli and his team.

While India has been a consistent limited-overs side over the past 6-7 years, England has of late lifted their game in coloured clothes by miles, thanks to a group of fantastic limited overs players like Jos Buttler, Jason Roy, and Ben Stokes.

Going into today’s series opener, India is expected to play around with set combinations which means Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma teaming up at the top of the order. With veteran Suresh Raina in great hitting form at No 3, and skipper Kohli at No.4, it will be interesting to see if the team management includes the in-form Lokesh Rahul in the middle order. All eyes will also be on the former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who was in great touch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for eventual champions Chennai Super Kings. While Manish Pandey is in running for the fourth spot on account of his good run in international T20 cricket. Batting late in the order, he boasts of 276 runs in 10 matches at average 92 and strike-rate 127.18. These numbers are hard to ignore.
